Education of SamaneraBhikkhus
The Kalutara Bodhi Trust takes an interest in educating the samanerabhikkhus (novicesmonks) in order to carry on the mantle of uplifting and fostering of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and abroad in future. In this regard, the Bodhi Trust provides text books and other educational requisites needed by the samanera bhikshus in the Kalutara district annually, as recommended by principals of the pirivenas, since the year 2000. As in previous years the requirements for the year 2018 were assessed in advance, and it was decided that 1344 samanera bhikkhus needed books and other requisites. A sum of Rs. 1,949,995.88 was allocated for this purpose. These requirements of the samanera monks were offered to them at a ceremony, chaired by the most venerable Kotugoda Dhammawasa Maha Nayaka Thero of the Amarapura Maha Nikaya on the 01st of December 2017. On the same day at this ceremony financial assistance was provided to the samanera monks following Pracheena languages, Buddhism, Buddhist philosophyetc, in pirivenas in the Kalutara district and Galle district, numbering 97. This project was started in 2013 and continues up to now. On a proposal made by Ven. Galboda Gnanissara Nayaka Thero of the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya, Trustees of the Kalutara Bodhi Trust brought Galle district too under this umbrella of this scheme and Ven. Galboda Gnanissara Nayaka Thero providing part of the expenditure incured in respect of the Galle district pirivenas.
